I cannot speak for customer service because I have never needed it. So maybe their customer service does suck, I don’t doubt the other reviews. I know few customer service places that dont suck these days.
Anyway, I have had this treadmill for over 3 years, use it quite often, and have not had a single issue with mine. Its not super fancy, but it has everything a basic runner needs (timer, heart rate, incline, variable speed, etc) and is not terribly expensive.

We bought this machine several years ago (at least six) for my mom (who is now 77) who uses it EVERYday. She walks on it at a relatively fast pace for an hour or so while doing her meditation or whatever she does to zone out. Since the initial purchase, we have had it serviced twice – the most recent service date was April 2009. I think there’s a 10-year warranty? Anyway, each time we’ve called, the service department was courteous and sent somebody out (who contracts with ProForm) within a day or so. The last time the guy came out, he realigned the belt and oiled all the moving parts; and because it was still under warranty, there was no service charge. Aside from the exceptional service, this treadmill is an excellent machine. It’s simple to use, simple to understand (my mom does not speak English all that well) and is pretty much a no-frills workhorse. There’s not much glitz to it, but I’m not sure what other bells and whistles you would want on a treadmill.
Anyway, don’t let the first rater throw you off if you’re contemplating buying a treadmill. I would definitely recommend this.
