Smooth Fitness treadmills
I have a Smooth Fitness treadmill and elliptical that I’m supposed to have plugged into surge protectors, the company told me that if a surge were to occur, it could ruin the laptop or computer systems in them if they weren’t plugged into surge protectors. Properly, the apartment that I just moved into apparently doesn’t have sufficient power in the guest bedroom for the gear to be plugged into surge protectors (had no idea they took up more energy than the equipment just becoming plugged into the wall).
So now my concern is how I can steer clear of surges taking place. I retain the equipment unplugged whenever I’m not making use of it. I heard surges can happen for the duration of thunderstorms, so I definitely never workout in the course of those. But can they take place at other instances?
*power surges

Surge protectors Do not use any added power. The electrical power consumption of a gadget powered through a surge protector is the exact same as that of the gadget alone.
A UPS does use a tiny added energy, as it has to use energy to keep the battery charge.
As for when surges take place… you can’t actually predict them. Yes, some occur in the course of thunderstorms but they occur for numerous other factors too.

You can not steer clear of surges from taking place actually. All you can do is defend against them with great surge protection.
Lightning can induce increased voltages on lines. Surge protectors will not safeguard against immediate strikes even though.
One more result in of surges is a weak electrical power grid, in which loads going on will dip the line, and going off will lead to a spike in the line. In that situation, you could steer clear of them by moving in which you have a stable grid, generally particularily close to base load power stations.
Here, we reside about 15-20 miles from a nuclear power station, and have reasonably stable energy.
